Info | Personal Background
Ron has been serving our country and our community since he was 17 years old. Ron served in the U. S. Marines from 1963 through 1967, including three years in the Presidential guard.
Upon returning home, Ron worked for the First National Bank of Pen Argyl and worked his way up to Vice President of the bank.
Today, Ron is a successful small businessman involved with real estate and investments.
Ron currently lives in Upper Mount Bethel with his wife Sharon their two sons, Ron Jr. (age 12) and Max (age 8). A recent addition to the family is Ally, a yellow Labrador.
Community Background
Ron Angle believes that citizen participation is the key to accountable government. For many years, Ron has been an outspoken advocate for the people and taxpayers of Northampton County.
Ron served on Portland Borough Council for 6 years.
Always an advocate for preserving the quality of life in our community, Ron fought vigorously and successfully against efforts to build incinerators in Wind Gap and Mount Bethel.
After moving to Mt. Bethel, Ron was elected as an Upper Mount Bethel Supervisor. Ron has long been committed to the importance of open space in our area. As Chairman of the Upper Mount Bethel Supervisors, Ron helped draft and implement Upper Mount Bethel's "One Good Acre" zoning ordinance.
As a past-president of his local Chamber of Commerce, Ron understands the importance of cooperation and open communication between business and community.
As Ron's older son was about to enter the public school system, Ron became involved in the Bangor Area School District. Ron was elected to the Bangor Area School Board and served for more than 8 years, including being elected President of the Bangor School Board. As a Bangor School Board director, Ron was instrumental in slowing the double digit tax increases that had been plaguing the school district for years.
The effort to bring Bangor School District taxes into line resulted in Ron founding the Bangor School District Industrial Development Committee, the first in Pennsylvania, which has served as model for school districts throughout the state. Ron recognized that one of best ways to control school taxes was to increase the tax base in the Bangor School District Area by bringing in new business. These efforts resulted in the development of a $6 million industry in Portland, without any tax dollars being utilized.
Bangor Area School Board members chose Ron Angle to represent them on the Board of the Northampton Community College. Ron served as a community college Trustee until this year, attending community college events and committee meetings.
Current Participation in our Community
In 1999, Ron was elected as the District 4 representative to Northampton County Council where he continues to serve as an outspoken advocate for open, honest and accountable government.
Ron is a person that many people call when they have a problem and need someone to help them cut through governmental red tape. He has a keen understanding of how to make government work for the people.
Ron is an avid collector of antiques and Civil War memorabilia. He and his son, Ron Jr., enjoy lots of time together on e-bay. Ron and his son Max enjoy fishing together.
Ron can be heard every Saturday morning from 11 AM to noon on radio station WAEB. On his talk show, he invites residents of the Lehigh Valley to "Speak out, it's your duty!" Topics include local, state and national issues including campaign finance reform, open space preservation, and interviews with local government officials, celebrities and "regular folks."
