Info | Former Mayor of Danbury.
Boughton ran for the mayor's office in 1981, losing to Dyer again. He then left politics for most of the decade, returning to the City Council in 1989. Don Boughton served two terms in the General Assembly as state representative for the 109th District before losing the seat to Democrat Lew Wallace in 1996.
Area politicians who worked with Boughton said Wednesday that what marked his terms in office was his deep concern for Danbury.
"He served as its mayor, on the City Council and as its state representative," said former Mayor Gene Eriquez. "There's not many you can say that about. I have nothing but good thoughts about him.
"He even worked in the city's public utilities department," Eriquez said. "I hired him."
"What a great guy," said state Rep. Bob Godfrey, D-Danbury, who knew Don Boughton as mayor and as a member of the General Assembly. "He was just open and friendly and passionate about the city of Danbury."
Dean Esposito, a Democrat who served alongside Don Boughton on the City Council, said he always admired the former mayor.
