Info | Greg Stanton served nine years on the Phoenix City Council. He was a leader in building a more diverse, sustainable economy, and a passionate supporter of education in our city.
Greg Stanton has lived in Phoenix for 37 years. He was raised in west Phoenix and attended Cortez High School. His parents, Fred and Mary Ann, still live in the same house where he and his three siblings grew up.
After high school, Greg attended college at Marquette University and then law school at the University of Michigan. After completing his studies, he returned to his hometown of Phoenix. While maintaining a busy law practice, Greg always made community service a priority. In 2000, he was appointed to the Phoenix City Council. In 2001 and again in 2005, he won re-election with an overwhelming majority of the vote. While on the council he represented Phoenix District 6, which includes the Biltmore, Ahwatukee Foothills, Arcadia and North Central communities.
He credits his parents for instilling a deep commitment to public service and volunteerism in him at an early age. They founded the Christian Needs Network, a volunteer organization that provided goods and services to members of the community in need. Greg carries on that tradition of public service by volunteering with a number of organizations including:
Big Brother/Big Sisters of Central Arizona
Arizona Children’s Association Board of Directors
Flinn Foundation Arizona Bioscience Steering Committee
Arizona School Readiness Board
Arizona Theater Company Board of Directors
His volunteerism and leadership has been recognized and he has won awards, including:
Arizona Big Brother of the Year
Children’s Action Alliance Jacque Steiner Public Leadership Award
Phoenix Business Journal “40 under 40″
He and his wife Nicole, a successful local attorney who will receive the YWCA business leadership award, married in 2005 and now have a four-year-old son and a baby daughter.
