Info | Mike Cole, a lifelong Erie County resident, was elected to the 142nd Assembly District in the special election held on May 2, 2006. He then won a decisive victory in his re-election to a full term on November 7, 2006. His district encompasses portions of Erie and Niagara counties.
Cole, first elected as Alden Town Councilman in 1998, most recently served as Alden Town Supervisor where he worked to foster a better economic climate by working directly with the Chamber of Commerce to attract more businesses and create better paying jobs. While serving the town, Cole worked to bring the company Greatbatch, Inc. and its 400 new jobs to Alden. Cole led efforts to develop the town’s zoning and planning guidelines while laying a foundation for future prosperity and a better quality of life for the community.
Cole possesses a wealth of knowledge, understanding and practical experience in federal and state government affairs. Before serving as Town Councilman, Cole served as General Counsel and Senior Field Representative to former Congressman Jack Quinn. In that capacity, Cole worked daily with Western New York constituents, businesses and not-for-profits, focusing on such important issues as community development, youth and families, seniors, crime, education, and agriculture. Cole also served as the Congressman’s liaison for issues affecting veterans across Western New York. Working with Congressman Quinn taught Cole the importance of fighting for Western New York’s interests, reforming government to serve the taxpayers, putting people first, achieving bi-partisan solutions for issues facing the community and recognizing that public service is a public trust.
Cole also served as a Legislative Assistant with the New York State Senate for the late Senator John B. Daly. This strong background and demonstrable commitment – to effective government, lower taxes and most importantly, a high level of constituent service – shaped Mike Cole’s dedicated commitment to his Western New York community.
Cole earned his Juris Doctor from the State University at Buffalo School of Law, and was admitted as an Attorney in February, 2001. As an accomplished attorney, Cole maintains a private law practice. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the State University College at Brockport in 1994, where he graduated with honors. He is also a graduate of Alden Central High School.
Cole is the son of Wayne and Dorothy Cole of Alden. His two brothers, Daniel and Dennis, are Alden graduates and are both employed with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Cole is married to the former Lori Kolodziej. They reside in the Village of Alden with their daughters, Emily and Allison. They attend mass at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Alden.
