Info | Stephanie L. Hansen is an associate in the Commercial Real Estate section of Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor (YCST) practicing in the areas of land use law, environmental law and Brownfields redevelopment. Prior to joining YCST, Stephanie practiced land use and environmental law at the Wilmington law firm of Richards, Layton & Finger in the General Litigation section since 2001.
Ms. Hansen served as President of New Castle County Council from 1996 to 2001 where she helped draft the New Castle County land use code (the Unified Development Code). In 1990, Ms. Hansen founded the Bear Glasgow Council of Civic Organizations and served as its President until elected to County Council in 1996. During her tenure as President of the Bear Glasgow Council, she received numerous awards for community service including two Delaware Senate Tributes, one Delaware House of Representatives Tribute, two Recognition Awards from New Castle County Council, and the 1996 Good Government Award from the Civic League for New Castle County. Additionally, from 1988 to 1996, Ms. Hansen was an environmental scientist and hydrologist with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Superfund and Underground Storage Tank Branches.
Ms. Hansen is a member of the American Bar Association and the Delaware State Bar Association where she currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Environmental Section. Additionally, Ms. Hansen currently serves as a volunteer attorney with Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, Inc., in pro bono matters pending before the Family Court of the State of Delaware and as the Chair of the 9th Representative District Democratic Committee.
Ms. Hansen is a graduate of the University of Delaware (B.S. Geology, 1984), the University of New Orleans (M.S. Earth Science, 1986) and Widener University School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 2000). While at Widener, she served as a legal intern in the Mid-Atlantic Environmental Law Clinic.
