Info | Scott Slifka, the Mayor of West Hartford, was re-elected to a second term in November 2005 with a record plurality. Mayor Slifka has maintained West Hartford's status as one of only 47 municipalities in the nation with AAA bond ratings from both Moody's and Standard & Poor's. He has been commended by the Hartford Courant for his proposal to establish a transit system dedicated to shuttling elderly, disabled and visually impaired residents that does not involve the spending of public dollars. Additionally, Mayor Slifka has been recognized for his leadership in bringing the nationally acclaimed Blue Back Square development to fruition.
First elected Mayor in November 2004, Mayor Slifka was previously elected to the Town Council in 2001 and 2003. Prior to becoming Mayor, he served nearly three years as Deputy Mayor. From 2001-2005, he served as Chairman of the Council's Finance and Budget Committee. In that capacity, he expanded tax relief to seniors and veterans. Furthermore, he crafted four budgets, including three which passed unanimously, that maintained services and strengthened the educational system while controlling the impact upon taxpayers.
Mayor Slifka, a native of West Hartford, is a graduate of Hall High School, George Washington University and George Washington University Law School. He serves as Counsel to The Hartford's Complex Claims Group and previously served as Chief of Staff to Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz. Mayor Slifka lives on Grennan Road with his wife, Noelle, Associate Counsel and Director of Military Engines Contract Management Organization for Pratt & Whitney. Mrs. Slifka is a former Captain in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps.
