InfoA resident of Manhattan?s East Side since 1985, Jonathan Bing brings to the State Assembly an accomplished history of fighting for community members? health and well-being. After working as a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Bruce M. Van Sickle, Jonathan joined the law firm of Torys LLP as an attorney in its labor and employment practice group. He also authored the award-winning legal article ?Protecting the Mentally Retarded from Capital Punishment: State Efforts Since Penry and Recommendations for the Future.?

Prior to his election, Jonathan served as a member of the American Bar Association?s House of Delegates, the Executive Council of the ABA?s Young Lawyers Division, and the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates. In March of 2001, Jonathan was elected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and he formerly served as the president of the NYU Public Interest Law Foundation.

After the tragic events of September 11th, Jonathan was chosen to coordinate over 250 attorneys to execute the Federal Emergency Management Agency?s Disaster Legal Services program ? which provided free, comprehensive legal assistance to over 750 New Yorkers affected by the terrorist attacks.

As a member of Manhattan Community Board 6, and chair of their Human Services Committee, Jonathan led a public forum on the threat of bio-terrorism and authored resolutions to protect the safety of local pre-schools and increase public access to medical information. Jonathan has also served as member of the Bellevue Hospital Community Advisory Board, Director of the Turtle Bay Association, member of Central Synagogue, and member of the East Midtown Association Business Improvement District Board.

Serving as New York Democratic State Committeeman for the 73rd Assembly District, Jonathan authored the resolution calling for a moratorium on executions in New York. He also served as vice president of the Lexington Democratic Club and assisted numerous campaigns. A graduate of the New York University School of Law, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Horace Mann School, Jonathan now brings his fight for human rights and a better New York to the State Assembly.
