| Info | John Weston is the Conservative Party candidate for the riding of West Vancouver/Sunshine Coast/Sea-to-Sky Country. Mr. Weston is a graduate of the Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto and the Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management Program. John is a respected lawyer, having worked at worked such prestigious law firms as Baker & McKenzie and Fasken Martineau.
In 2000, John Weston was a founding member of the Access Law Group and is proud to practice law with a high degree of integrity and give a legal voice to the voiceless. His expertise is in aboriginal law, constitutional law, international law and wills and estates.
Mr. Weston acted as Lead Counsel for a precedent-setting case relating to the existence of a third order of government, bringing together some of Canada’s top constitutional lawyers on behalf of a group of Nisga’a aboriginal elders who challenged Canada’s first modern-day treaty, the Nisga’a Treaty. He is a nationally recognized public speaker on constitutional and aboriginal issues and also occasionally contributes to national local newspapers on matters of government and law.
In addition to his professional life, John Weston is deeply committed to his community and has loaned his skills to a variety of volunteer and not-for-profit organizations. He was a Founding Director of Canadians for Reconciliation, Equality and Equity, a non-profit think tank focused on improving the lives of aboriginal peoples in Canada. He has also been a Chairman of the Board for the Canadian Food for the Hungry International as well as a member of several other organizations and church groups.
John Weston lives in West Vancouver with his wife Donna and their three children. He is fluent in English and Mandarin.
